To compete in the handmade jewelry business you need to always be one step ahead of fashion and your competition. You have to create the most unusual and unique jewelry that will sell well. It’s great to be creative but if it doesn’t sell, it’s not going to help you succeed or pay the bills. There is no use making incredibly complicated jewelry and not being able to sell at a reasonable price. In this tough economy price counts, make unique jewelry and sell at a good price. It is better to appeal to a larger audience and reasonable prices are a good starting point.

Always aim to offer only the best quality. If people are happy with the quality of your handmade jewelry they will come back and recommend your handcrafted jewelry to their friends. Word of mouth is always your best advertisement.

We have been making and selling our handmade jewelry for almost 25 years and would not trade our lifestyle for any other. We have been working hard building our handmade jewelry and wholesale jewelry business with our children on our laps. Because we have always had a home-based business, we haven’t missed a minute of our children’s lives and it makes me feel good as a parent. Seeing us working hard and succeeding in our business will greatly influence the way our children look at life. Hopefully we have been good role models and have shaped their characters to succeed in not only business but life in general.

Above everything else, I love creating handmade jewelry. There is a great source of satisfaction when you create a beautiful design and bring it to life. Customers always comment on our new designs and styles and it has always been a huge encouragement to create even more unique designs of handmade earrings and handmade bracelets.

One of the most important issues is cash flow when first starting out in a handmade jewelry business.  Craft shows provide an excellent opportunity to increase cash flow.  Whatever you make can be put back into the business to make more stock and therefore the possibility of increased sales.
